June 2, 2016 – Ankara:  The RINJ Foundation has issued a statement in one of its blogs, on Twitter, and on its Facebook page slamming Turkey’s President Erdogan and begging the question, “Is Erdogan A Monster?”.

It may not be safe to criticize this despotic-appearing ‘palace-dwelling Turkish ruler’. According to Al Jazeera, yesterday, “a former Miss Turkey has been handed a 14-month suspended prison sentence for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan through a poem she shared” on Twitter.

“Until around 2002, Turkey flourished with great technology; modern manufacturing capabilities; social reform; gender equality; and superb education. Turkey by 2002 was becoming a developed nation. Then something happened to launch a deep slide. Religious conservatism? Or is it fanaticism akin to that of Adolf Hitler, the king of fanatics?

“We now fear for the Turkish people.” says the statement, “because we are beginning to wonder if the figurehead Turkish President who pushed out the lawfully elected Prime Minister and installed a Gestapo-like secret service in Ankara is a *MONSTER?”

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been quoted in media around the world saying often that promoting and practising birth control is a high crime of “treason” in his country.

Erdogan is also quoted in The Guardian as saying that  “Turkish women are primarily “mothers” and must have at least three Muslim babies each.”

“In late 2014 comments by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” adds The RINJ Foundation’s statement, ” indicated that he felt that women and men are not equal “because their [women’s] nature is different.”

According to RINJ, “Erdogan’s misogynistic decrees have become so voluminous that eight women’s groups in Turkey signed a statement condemning Erdogan’s remarks as violating the national constitution and international agreements, saying he aimed to “denigrate decades of effort by women’s movements for gender equality.”

“What lies below the exterior of Erdogan’s remarks this week  about contraception is that birth control in Muslim countries means “abstinence” during certain times of a woman’s menstruation cycle so as to avoid conception during or near the ovulation period of the cycle. Some people call this the “rhythm method” of birth control. It is commonly used among Catholic and Muslim communities that are poor, or strictly observe the arcane ideology that “the pill” is frowned upon by their male Gods or Saints.

Some people call it, saying “NO”.

Erdogan says woman may not say “NO”.

“Erdogan in a defacto reality seeks to obviate the requirement for a woman’s consent for sexual intercourse. Maybe he should clear this up.

“In ‘Muslim Countries’ the use of birth control pills is often replaced with abstinence or ‘the rhythm method’ of birth control but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has in May 2016 made a public TV proclamation that Turkish women must stop saying “No” and have more Muslim babies. He says all women are first and foremost “mothers” and must have three Muslim babies each.

Currently Turkey has a:

  • birth rate‎ of ‎16.9 births/1,000;
  • population growth rate‎ of ‎1.34% (2015); and
  • a total fertility rate‎ (TFR) of ‎2.14 children born/woman which pars with most developed nations but raising the TFR to 3 or more matches most UNdeveloped nations

“In Machiavellian or just plain evil ways is Erdogan giving Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the savagely brutal rapist organization known as “The Islamic State” gang, a challenge for the ‘Monster’ title!

*”Monster” is a term we use to describe men who get away with violating women and children by having usurped lawful leadership to gain savage power and control over communities and countries and then developed brutal authoritarian measures to undermine human rights and retain their illegitimate power by eliminating criticism and opposition. Examples might be: Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Bashar al-Assad, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, etc.
