Kudos To The Philippines for Maid Rescues

by Sharon Santiago, staff writer, Feminine-Perspective.org

The case of ordinary Filipino workers dashing around in vehicles picking up battered maids who requested to be taken to a shelter and then ushered home to the Philippines, is the case of a panic-attack rescue. What else do you do on quick notice?

Some 150,000 Filipino household workers remain unsafe in Kuwait and from all appearances they are in greater danger than ever.

The Philippines President Duterte offered to pay their way home but most women say they need help escaping from their enslavement. An unknown number of women were “rescued” by unskilled civilian workers sent by the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (which now blames its Ambassador and mysteriously apologises to the Kuwaitis) to whisk escapees away from Kuwaiti abusers to shelters pending egress from Kuwait.

Kuwait Denies Human Rights to Filipino Maids

The Philippine Embassy’s panic attack rescues have been absurdly declared by Kuwait to be a violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty which clearly indicates that Kuwait does not consider these Filipino women to have the right to quit their servitude and freely return home.

The Filipino Women are apparently prisoner slaves in the eyes of the Kuwaiti government. Not only is this a crime but it is known to be a crime by the Kuwaiti government because it has been told repeatedly over decades by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch that this conduct is unlawful in an international context.

The Arab media is defecating on its own cause by vigorously attacking the ordinary civilians who have tried to help some women in severe distress in Kuwait. The Arab world has officially taken misogyny over the top. Kuwait has begun arresting innocent civilians who helped Filipino domestic workers escape abuse. Kuwait hates women.

Attacking Rescuers of Women in Distress is the last straw.

The RINJ Foundation has asked the United Nations to examine Kuwait’s repeat behaviour in the context of long standing systemic abuse of a class of people in Kuwait.

Civil society Women Seek UN Sanctions Against Kuwait

Of particular concern to The RINJ Foundation Women, Kuwait systematically encourages and tolerates abuse of domestic workers from the Philippines and Indonesia. Lately Kuwait’s government says it wants to import slaves from Ethiopia because it has run afoul of South East Asian governments.

What do you do if people are raping, beating, killing the women of your country?

Whatever it takes to save them.

Apparently the Philippines Ambassador to Kuwait thinks the same way as do women. Salamat, po.

What do you do if people are raping, beating, killing your countrymen? Whatever it takes to save them.
