UN: Britain and America must surrender Chagos Islands to Mauritius. What about their Crime Against Humanity?
In February Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf of the International Court of Justice in the Hague told Britain, “The UK has an obligation to bring to an end its administration of the Chagos archipelago as rapidly as possible…”
Mauritius owns the Chagos Islands and the International Court of Justice gave the islands back to Mauritius, but Theresa May and Donald Trump defied that Court order hence Mauritius brought the matter to the UN which trounced the pair because, “there is nothing that mitigates the reprehensible crimes against humanity committed by these two countries in the Chagos Islands” said one UN representative discreetly.
The vote result was Britain and America’s overwhelming defeat. Silence has swept across the UN while heads are shaking with the knowledge of a not-so-well-kept secret crime against humanity commit by the governments of the UK and the USA in the 1970s and forward.

The photo and its story: “UK and US Crime Against Humanity” say many legal experts. An overwhelming UN vote on 22 May 2019 in favour of booting the Americans and British out of the Chagos Islands was done with the full knowledge that the two nations had commit horrific crimes against humanity in the radical and forced depopulation of the islands.
Feminine-Perspective:
If Britain & the USA do not obey the UN Chagos Islands (incl. Diego Garcia) Resolution, are all UN Resolution Sanctions Null and Void? Iran & DPRK must want to know. Presumably the answer is “yes”. Get the boats loaded for Iran and the DPRK because the US and the UK are muttering that they will not comply. And return the DPRK‘s coal carrying cargo ship ASAP.
While many families died in the forced depopulation many lived on in poverty in Mauritius to protest every single day of their lives since their homes were stolen from them. They watched and shuddered in horror as a million Iraqis were killed by bombers flown from their homes on Diego Garcia from 2003 to 2011.
History: The United States told Britain it wanted the largest island, Diego Garcia for a nuclear air base and that the people on the island were expendable.
“Americans forced people to leave by terrorizing them; starving them; and killing every pet on the island in ‘gas chambers'” says the lawyer for the remaining survivors of the Chagos depopulation.
American troops forced survivors on boats and took them to horrid prisons in the Seychelles Islands. Those the Americans did not kill went on to live in squalor.
In 2016 Britain renewed the Diego Garcia lease to the Americans for an Island it does not own for yet another 20 years. Presumably, in accordance with the UN Resolution of 22 May, the lease is illegal; the islands belong to the Chagossians of Mauritius.
The British government has denied any illegalities in the expulsion of the population of the Chagos. But expulsion of any population from anywhere is of itself a crime says the Rome Statute.
But twice, once yesterday and once before in 2017, the entire General Assembly of the United Nations has said otherwise as did the International Court of Justice on February 2019.

The photo and its story: Many Chagos Islanders died in the forced depopulation of the Chagos Islands. Lawyer for the Chagos Islanders who had been threatened with bombing said their food supplies were removed. “An entire population was written off as expendable.”
Chagossians from the Chagos Archipelago endured a forced expulsion. All inhabitants of the island of Diego Garcia and the other islands were deprived of basic supplies.
“The American policy was to terrify the simple people into leaving.”
American Troops killed every pet on Diego Garcia in 1971. American military vehicles were used in 1971 to gas thousands of the pets. The people were told that the people were going to suffer the same fate. Islanders who wanted to go to the Capital City in Mauritius were blocked from doing so. They were loaded onto ships and expelled.
“Stealing a Nation” is a 2004 Granada Television documentary about the British–American clandestine operation that saw the expulsion of the native Chagossian population of Diego Garcia and neighbouring islands. More than 2,000 people were exiled to Mauritius between 1967 and 1973, so that Diego Garcia could become a United States airbase (see depopulation of Chagossians from the Chagos Archipelago). The film contains a series of interviews with native Chagossians, who have been deprived of their right of return and forced to live in abject poverty. Stealing a Nation was written and directed by John Pilger, and produced and directed by Christopher Martin; reconstruction footage was directed by Sean Crotty.
The Actions of the people of the Chagos Islands that led to their Human Rights Victory:
- On 5 March 2012, an international petition was launched on We the People section of the whitehouse.gov website in order to ask the White House in the United States to consider the Chagos case.
- In November 2016, the United Kingdom restated it would not permit Chagossians to return to the Chagos Archipelago. At the same time it again leased the island Diego Garcia (without Mauritius authority) to the United States.
- On 23 June 2017, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted in favour of referring the territorial dispute between Mauritius and the UK to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in order to clarify the legal status of the Chagos Islands archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The motion was approved by a majority vote with 94 voting for and 15 against
- In September 2018, the International Court of Justice in The Hague, heard arguments in a case regarding whether Britain violated Mauritian sovereignty when it took possession of the islands for its own purposes.
- On 25 February 2019 the ICJ ruled that the United Kingdom infringed on the right of self-determination of the Chagos Islanders and was obliged to cede its control of the islands.
