Today Donald Trump played doctor and explained as a soloist to the world in an afternoon press briefing a series of extraordinarily wrong interpretations of simple math.
Trump explained that America’s massive testing program (no isolation facilities or contact tracing) which had reached over 50 millions of Americans who waited up to 14 days to get their results (he confirmed in a Q&A after his delivery) was the best in the world.

Trump claimed that America had the lowest death rate as a percent of reported cases in the world (150,845 deaths / 4,013,722 cases x 100= 3.75%) . That is a whopper of a lie. What Trump fails to understand is that as the number of tests being done around the world discovers more mild and asymptomatic cases, the lower the death rate against reported cases will drop. Asymptomatic and mild cases have not produced deaths as yet. The world as known this disease for about 7 months and it is uncertain what will come next.
The number of American SARS2 deaths reported by medical examiners at the time of Trump’s deliver was over 150,000. No country in the world has anywhere near that number of deaths. Most countries in the world have a much lower death rate on reported cases as is shown here.

“When the pandemic has run its course we expect to see a death rate something like three times the death rate of influenza and a disease that infects far more persons than any virus thus far, says Fred Harris, a biostatistician and computer scientist who prepares the civil society daily reports on the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“We estimate with complex algorithms based on global testing that the United States has somewhere near 61 million unreported mild plus unreported asymptomatic cases thus roughly 19% of Americans have been infected. Likely up three times to four times that number of Americans and probably around a million or more will die unless the current trends are abruptly stopped,” says Harris. “Vaccinations will not likely proliferate fast enough to change that,” he added.

Trump talks about ventilators which are contraindicated because they are killing COVID-19 patients around the world.
COVID-19 puts thousands of tiny holes in the patient’s lower lungs and also causes what is known as fibrosis with a lot of debris blocking the lower lungs. This phenomenon is creating symmetrical ground glass opacities on the radiological images of both lungs which in a manner of speaking leaves the lungs like a balloon with tiny perforations. If one blows air through the swiss cheese lungs, the perforations get bigger and the patient has a lowered ability to oxygenate their blood with the useless lungs. Force more air and the damage increases with lowered efficiency and which is interpreted as a need to increase the flow rate. It is a constant cycle of exacerbations gradually killing the patient. It happens in most cases.
More than 80% of vented patients with comorbid conditions die. Sources say, “the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) has cut the death rate enormously as compared to ventilators such that most patients live.”
In several locations, The Nurses Without Borders report that “the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) cuts the death rate .”
Dr. Cameron Kyle-Siddell, a doctor on the forefront of a USA national debate about ventilators, said “We are operating under a medical paradigm that is untrue. I fear that this misguided treatment will lead to a tremendous amount of harm to a great number of people in a very short time.”
A recent instance of high mortality among ‘vented’ Covid-19 patients at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) in India has made it increasingly clear to those doctors that ventilators are contraindicated.
Around the world, some 80+% of patients who have been intubated for a ventilator, die. Worse than that, of 90 patients who were intubated on ventilators at the India government-run BMCRI facility until 13 July, only one survived.
“Eighty per cent of the patients died within four to six hours of reaching our hospital. They had been already intubated. They had severe comorbidities like heart diseases, acute hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney diseases, coronary artery disease and some patients were also on dialysis when they came to us,” says Dr C.R. Jayanthi, director-dean of BMCRI.
