Today, humanitarian vehicles were burned and destroyed by the henchmen of Nicolás Maduro, the former President of Venezuela.

Millions of Venezuelans have suffered hunger and lack of medical support and supplies.

Maduro has operated a significant criminal organization that corrupted the ground forces of the Venezuelan military since 2012 at least.   Those troops still involved in the storage and distribution of drugs and other contraband have blocked humanitarian relief by the ton since the start of this year.

Owing to a controverted election in May 2018, the President of the elected Venezuelan National Assembly was sworn in as President of Venezuela on 23 January, as the term of the former leader Maduro expired. This occurred  in accordance with a proviso of the nation’s Constitution.

“Canada is deeply concerned by the acts of violence allegedly perpetrated by the Maduro regime, designed to block the entry of relief items from neighbouring countries. Canada calls for these unacceptable attacks to be investigated and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. These attacks on civilians are simply unacceptable and a violation of basic humanitarian principles and human decency.
