Another broken commitment from the United States should be no surprise to anyone. As FPM.news reported in late July, the United States has broken the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty it had entered with the Soviet Union and Russia.

This has much to do with the situation in the South China Sea where China has challenged American hegemony. America did not want to be restricted in its fight with the Chinese. It has been developing intermediate nuclear missile forces for years. The first one flew yesterday. US President Trump had decided to install nuclear weapons in Asia.

The Chinese takeover of the region is somewhat impressive and formidable. America wants to assail China from a platform in the region rather than risk fighting a war from its own territory.

That has become complicated since the World Court and the United Nations  gave Diego Garcia back to the Chagos Islanders whom America and Britain stole the islands from. The US is likely looking at Guam since Rodrigo Duterte promised Xi Jinping he would not host American nuclear weapons. Duterte wouldn’t know.

The US has a deal with the Armed Forces of the Philippines with whom the US spends a lot of money.

Things aren’t always what they are said to be in PH. There are five bases among the islands where the US prepositions its stores of weapons and keeps military personnel on rotation. It is free to conduct its own business without oversight or accountability.

America is tripping around South Asia trying to find a country that will allow it to install its new ground-based 5,000 kilometer range nuclear missiles. The network of South East Asian nations (ASEAN) has already established a nuclear free zone. Read the treaty if you wish.

Unfortunately the whole situation leaves Europe somewhat up the river without a paddle but France may come to the rescue and provide in a cooperative vein some of its own nuclear weapons to act as deterrents against Russian nuclear assets.
