China to fight a new COVID-19 surge with 6 new jabs.

China’s CDC is estimating over 82 percent of China’s population has been infected with the SARS-COV2 virus, says a prominent Chinese respiratory disease expert, Zhong Nanshan.

The main COVID-19 strain currently in Guangzhou where a new surge has begun is XBB1.9.1, he said. “Therefore, the most important task in containing the spread of COVID-19 is the research and development of vaccines and medicines,” according to a Chinese government document.

China has approved two new COVID-19 vaccines against the currently dominant XBB mutated variant and there are about four more waiting for approval, Zhong Nanshan revealed Monday.

By comparison, “174.29% of the USA may have been infected or even reinfected including reported + estimated unreported mild and estimated asymptomatic (580,374,876) human infections, some of which patients may not have been ill in their first course of the disease but could have spread the disease,” says the Civil Society Partners in Solidarity against COVID-19 (CSPAC).

A World Health Organization advisory group recommends this year’s COVID-19 boosters be updated to target the XBB strains of the SARS-COV-2 virus, according to a statement released last week.

Two new Chinese vaccines and four more in the approval stages to target specifically the current variants as per the WHO advisories says renowned Dr. Zhong Nanshan.

XBB has recently fueled a major surge in COVID-19 cases in China. This variant went from 74.4 per cent of all cases being XBB in late April to a new 83.6 percentile in May, say reports from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

China continues to test four new vaccines. Participants benefit from vaccine trials involving thirty-thousand test cases, because of the close watch on their health status over many months, something most people do not normally receive past the first 15 minutes after being vaccinated. “That’s the biggest incentive for me, because I want to be vaccinated and enjoy the extra follow up health care,” said one vaccinee.

“A study, conducted in Canada, investigated not only the relative vaccine effectiveness but also the absolute vaccine effectiveness when compared to unvaccinated individuals, two dose recipients as well as three dose recipients.  This study found that with each additional dose, VE increased for severe disease. Absolute VE was 82% (95%CI 75-88%) as measured more than 84 days after third dose, and 92% (95%CI 87-95%) for fourth dose recipients at greater than 7 days after the fourth dose,” reported the WHO.
