USA must not be part of Asian conferences noted participants

The Shangri-La Dialogue is a conference of the UK-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). The annual gathering is a security summit that takes place in Singapore and has done so since 2002. It has become Asia’s premier security debate while backroom gatherings at secret locations host the security intelligence chiefs of many of the attendee nations.

Six leaders of European nations attended this year as did Volodomyr Zelenskyy via video message as NATO aims to expand into Asia. There was considerable resentment.

One of the greatest fears expressed at this year’s IISS conference in Singapore was an eruption in the Taiwan strait as America flexed its muscles from military bases in the Philippines which it now occupies despite massive opposition demonstrations by the people of the Philippines.

The USA has complained that its warships and spy planes have been aggressively intercepted when they enter the sovereign space of China.

China maintains its sovereign spaces must be respected.

China’s U.S.-sanctioned Defence Minister refuses to meet with American Officials

America has placed sanctions on Beijing’s Defense Minister, Li Shangfu since 2018 but is now demanding that Minister Li meet with the “childish cowboy Lloyd Austin who at every breathe spouts about ironclad support for its military bases in the Philippines and acts like a yet-to-be potty-trained kid at these conferences,” suggested one attendee to Melissa Hemgingway.

Not much has offended the people of Asia as the presence of America and this year’s IISS conference is no exception. Slinging barbs at China has only damaged the Shangri-La Dialogue.

“The proposals for peace in eastern Europe presented by Indonesia and by China were shat on by the Americans and Ukrainian officials and that inspired disdain for the unwelcome Americans,” reported Melissa Hemingway from the conference.
