Bakhmut Urban Meat Grinder in a war made for arms dealers

“We’ll be back soon in Bakhmut when it is no longer a human meat grinder. It is home for many of our people, now scattered everywhere. When the Nazis are kicked out of Donetsk, Bakhmut families will go home.”

The population of the once 70,000-person city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk People’s Republic has dwindled down to an estimated 3,200 persons as a threesome of humanitarian workers pull out, taking with them three orphan children and seven non-ambulatory sheltered citizens. The departure of the last occupants of a woman’s shelter had been delayed for two reasons: finding family for each person and completing a plan for safe evacuation.

“We did not rush departure because we had a very good shelter and huge stores of food generously donated by people who vacated the area since last August,” explained Lana, a nurse who doubles as an ambulance driver for the humanitarian work of the RINJ Foundation in several regions of Ukraine since 2012.

“Advancing the concept of world peace, Clare Daly MEP/Dublin, speaks in synchronicity with the minds of the world population,” says Dale Carter, security director of The RINJ Foundation.

Humanitarian medical workers have treated solders of many nationalities in Ukraine, Donetsk, Luhansk, Bakhmut, Donetsk City, Kherson, Melitopol, Mariupol, Zaporizhzia and more.

“Also, I guess I can say this now, we had some Ukrainian soldiers we could not in good conscience release because of their medical conditions. We got them out and to their families directly using our significant underground infrastructure in Ukraine. There was no way these people can go back to the fight. They fear being branded as deserters but they are lucky to be alive and only made it this far because of family members in the city who knew us and passed a case to us and then a few more followed. They can deal with the Ukrainian authorities on their own at their own speed. Two of them are amputees and will need prosthetics. An old man found them in his exploded building and his daughter, a former classmate of mine who lived in her own home got word to us that there was no help for these guys who were still teenagers. We take care of anyone who is referred to our doorstep. Our policy is that RINJ does its work irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions and provides absolute confidentiality to all who receive our personal support,” Lana explained.

“The city of Bakhmut, Donetsk has been victimized like much of the Republic of Donetsk since 2014, under attack by Ukrainians, Americans, and Nazis of the Ukrainian Azov Battalion which was a reformed WWII Nazi unit under a new name in May 2014. We were well-entrenched across Donbass, helping women and girls who lost their homes.

“We’ll be back soon in Bakhmut when it is no longer a human meat grinder. It is home for many of our people now scattered everywhere. When the Nazis are kicked out of Donetsk, Bakhmut families will go home,” Lana added. “But there is not much left of the city. Some of the oldtimers have been hording pictures and maps to help some day with the reconstruction.”

“We see and care about all the people harmed in this insane war which is being fought at the pleasure of NATO which was losing its raison d’être,” said Ms. Carter by way of explaining some of Lana’s remarks about non-alignment.

“This war is being paid for with the lives of Ukrainians and Russians,” making a few members of the military industrial complex filthy rich.

Ms. Daly is accused by the former comedian Volodymir Zelenskyy of spreading two wrong opinions and therefore is a “Russian propagandist”.  Ms Daly’s alleged wrong opinions are that “sanctions against Russia make innocent people suffer” and that the Ukrainian conflict is “a proxy war between NATO (USA) and Russia”.
