If ZNPP had a nuclear accident millions of Russians could die

Energoatom graph shows that a nuclear accident at ZNPP would spread radioactivity not in Ukraine but over Donetsk PR, Luhansk PR, all other regions controlled by the Russian Army/Donetsk Army plus also a large swathe of Russia. Photo credit: Energoatom.

If a major ZNPP (Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant) accident were to happen, the air mass would carry radiation to the southern part of Ukraine and the southwestern regions of Russia – reports reports a civil society ZNPP surveillance team based on a report acquired from Energoatom for August 29–31, 2022.

The wind direction is southeast. Therefore, the radiation will spread to a part of Zaporizhzhya, Kherson and Luhansk regions, and will also completely cover Crimea, Donetsk region and the adjacent regions of Russia: Rostov region, Krasnodar region and Stavropol region.

While it seems extremely unlikely that Russia would conduct nuclear terrorism that could kill 15 million of its own citizens, a civil society ZNPP surveillance team has ascertained that recent shelling of the region with American M777 Howitzers is coming from two positions of Ukraine-held regions. See video below.

“Ukraine informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of renewed shelling in recent days at the site of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), but it said all safety systems remained operational and there had been no increase in radiation levels,” Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said on Sunday.

An IAEA expert mission to ZNPP in the next few days to support ensuring nuclear safety and security there, said a statement issued by Rafael Mariano Grossi.

Cars and homes were set fire and nine casualties resulted from the shelling of the area around the larget nuclear power plant in Europe. Yevgeny Balitsky, the administrative head of the Zaporozhye region says today the shelling of the Energodar town came from Ukraine’s Armed Forces using American M777 howitzers located in the Kiev-controlled settlement of Nikopol reports a civil society ZNPP surveillance team.

“The Russians are shelling Nikopol and Marganets, and imitating a ‘response’ attack at Enerhodar, although they are firing themselves,” Ukrainian Andrii Yermak wrote on Telegram.

But according to a volunteer with the civil society ZNPP surveillance team, “we were all told  at meetings where we were given tablets of iodine to say that it is the Russians shooting weapons at themselves”.

The picture and its story: “The day has come,” writes @IAEAorg on Twitter. IAEA’s Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhya (ISAMZ) is now on its way.

“We must protect the safety and security of Ukraine’s and Europe’s biggest nuclear facility. Proud to lead this mission which will be in ZNPP later this week,” says an IAEA statement.
