Fact checking Canadian politicians who this week deployed the most anti-female police force in the world to assault indigenous Canadian women is a big disappointment. The women were trying to block a pipeline through their territory.
The women in the video below are alleged to be guilty of a 56-day protest blocking armed men of the Canadian federal government who are backing the oil industry’s desire for the indigenous women’s land. Ottawa wants to run fossil fuel pipelines through their land which belies Trudeau’s public statements
In the women’s own words they published on a social media outlet:
“The RCMP violently raided unceded Gidimt’en territory on November 19th, 2021, removing Indigenous women from their land at gunpoint on behalf of TC Energy’s proposed Coastal GasLink pipeline.
“The raid involved about 50 police, including 20 tactical officers in green military fatigues, with assault weapons and attack dogs who surrounded the camp. During the raid, the RCMP breached two structures – Skïy ze’ Cabin, a cabin built on the proposed drill pad site, and a nearby tiny home. RCMP cut the camp’s satellite internet and radio antenna cords.
“The police attempted to enter the tiny house, but Cas Yikh supporting chief Sleydo’ demanded to see a warrant. Police then broke down the door with an axe and a chainsaw belonging to the land defenders, and arrested everyone inside, including Sleydo’. Police also entered Skïy ze’ cabin with a chainsaw and arrested everyone there, including Dinï ze’ Woos’ daughter, Jocey.
“For 56 days, Gidimt’en land defenders (under the direction of Dinï ze’ Woos) re-occupied their ancestral Cas Yikh territory, blocking the Coastal Gaslink pipeline from drilling beneath Wet’suwet’en headwaters. The land reclamation known as Coyote Camp was established to protect the sacred Wedzin Kwa. Over the course of November 18th-19th, 32 people were arrested, including 3 journalists and 3 Legal Observers. All land defenders have now been released from prison, with a February 14th, 2022 court date.”
The Canadian Government is fighting several Canadian land owners, like the Wet’suwet’en, so that Canada can sell more fossil fuels, despite Trudeau’s promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
A report by Canada’s federal Environment Commissioner, Jerry DeMarco says Canada’s past 3 decades of failure to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions contrasts current messaging. Canadian emissions increased 21%, 1990 to 2019, according to government data. The Liberal government’s record is an increase by over 1%, the “worst performance of all G7 nations”. Liberal government story of greenhouse reduction promises conflicts with Trudeau government’s violence toward indigenous Canadians who have tried to stop the destruction of their lands by tar sands and other pipelines.
Canada has a global reputation for committing genocide against its indigenous peoples. Recently its disgusting national police force which already has some 20,000 unresolved cases of sexual misconduct and misogynistic mistreatment of women against it was accused of plotting the murders of Wet’suwet’en indigenous people.
“As Wet’suwet’en, we have never given up our rights or title to 22,000km2 of our traditional territories.”
“The oil industry lies to Canadians in the same manner tobacco companies lied. ‘This is good for you‘, says former oil exec.
“The problem for the oil industry is the same one the tobacco industry faced, trying to convince people: what we are doing is good for you. Going a little over zealous in protecting the lives of one’s family and communities is perfectly natural,” suggested, Rick Petrie, a former Alberta oil and gas industry executive during a long, anfractuous interview.
“Oil barons live high in the hills drinking purified water, breathing filtered air, but the rest of mankind is fighting an extinction-level crisis. The two sides will never agree, but the story by the Sierra club you showed me is true and the dirtiest oil producer in the world must be the first of a long line of shutdowns. The people getting rich off this dirty oil sands project will never agree to anything. They are rich and control the politicians in Edmonton, Houston, Washington, and Ottawa,” he added.

Why are Canadian politicians telling such whopping lies and hurting Canadians? Is the oil money worth destroying Canada? Will losing the oil money destroy Canada? We do not know. But watching the Trudeau government debate climate change on Wednesday was an exasperating contrast to the reality Reuters’ and other journalists are seeing. The Canadian government wants dirty oil production to succeed and its historic actions suggest it is willing too kill Canadians to achieve that end.

Working closely with gas company officials a year ago, Canada’s militarized federal police force acted against Wet’suwet’en indigenous people no differently than does China’s police repress Uighurs in Xinjiang according to evaluation of detailed reports on both crises.
“The only difference,” suggested Simon Baldock, a security analyst, “is that the Uighurs have a better chance of survival than do the five thousand-year original inhabitants of British Columbia in Canada who have [RCMP] snipers sighting them, with kill orders.”
Justin Trudeau and Jason Kenney along with other de facto climate-change denialists, in Canada, are terrified by a 5-feet-4-inches tall 85-year-old Canadian academic who does not like the the fossil-fuel pipelines but was alarmed by the book of Andreas Malm, How to Blow Up a Pipeline. Kenney’s allegations against Doctor Suzuki are, like a baby-belly on a virgin, obviously, glaringly, not quite right.
Alberta premiere Kenney is spending 30 million dollars on a war room to fight advocates of climate change mitigation, seeking to “collaborate with experts in communications in locations in key media markets around the world… to expand public support for Canada’s vital energy industry,” said Mr. Kenney.
“As promised, our government is standing up for Alberta’s interests by fighting the well-funded foreign campaign targeting our energy industry. This misinformation has been allowed to defame Alberta for far too long. It has seen foreign special interests secretively spending tens of millions of dollars to thwart Alberta’s economic development by landlocking our energy – but it stops now,” said Jason Kenney, Alberta Premier, sounding like a “conspiracy theorist but in practice is delivering one of the most haunting misinformation campaigns the oil industry has ever launched, akin to the tobacco industries’ cigarettes are safe campaign, aimed at Albertans with less than a high school diploma,” suggests former oil exec in response to Kenney’s statements.
Kenney and his “climate-change denialist Conservative party” in Alberta call human-caused climate change a myth. They don’t believe the science. They contradict the words of the Canadian Prime Minister whose government held an emergency debate on climate change on Wednesday night, prompted by historic flooding in British Colombia.

“The extraordinary little Canadian who is a big man in Science has everyone baffled. You can’t argue against science so Jason Kenney is aiming at Albertans who never studied science. Let’s call the scientist ‘David’ and, the oil-and-gas industry’s politician we’ll call what? Not Goliath. Goliath had scruples,” said Rick Petrie, a former oil and gas industry executive.
Dr. David Takayoshi Suzuki has said to a group of protestors against Canada’s fickleness in the climate change mitigation sphere, “There are going to be pipelines blown up [Andreas Malm] if our leaders don’t pay attention,” and he is repeating warnings this journalist has heard many times from angry environmentalists.
“Not only will pipelines be blown up, but we can be certain that world leaders will be put on trial for treason or worse — be killed,” said Extinction Rebellion Canada’s National Action & Strategy Coordinator Zain Haq. “Although Extinction Rebellion activists are non-violent, we cannot control the actions of those outside of this movement who may commit acts of violence.
“The same goes for the media. When the Canadian public realizes that the press has been misleading them about how the climate emergency is being addressed, you can be sure that some people will become violent.”
Damaging pipelines is terrorism not environmentalism, true or false?
“We’re in deep doo doo,” Suzuki had said Monday to CHEK radio.
“And the leading experts have been telling us for over 40 years. This is what we’ve come to. The next stage after this, there are going to be pipelines blown up if leaders don’t pay attention to what’s going on.”
Dr. Suzuki recants and apologizes.
In a statement released yesterday, Dr. Suzuki said his remarks were poorly chosen and that “Any suggestion that violence is inevitable is wrong and will not lead us to a desperately needed solution to the climate crisis,” he said. “My words were spoken out of extreme frustration and I apologize.”
Clearly, blowing up pipelines is radical stupidity that causes more environmental damage.
Dr. Suzuki has said recently that violence in the matter has been initiated by the Ottawa side when anti-gas pipeline protesters were violently attacked.
It is also true that some activists on the fringe of reality, but even those with good intentions, are blinded by anger, like Ruby Montoya and Jessica Reznicek thus willing to do very foolish things. That also is David Suzuki’s point.
“David Suzuki has been predicting environmental consequences for decades. Similarly, this comment was a predictive reflection on the escalating stakes and potential for conflict due to the effects of human-caused climate change,” the David Suzuki organization explained on Twitter.
Canadian politicians whose pockets are lined by oil and gas producers are telling Canadians lies about Ottawa’s efforts to end the burning of fossil fuels—another of David Suzuki’s points, echoed by UNESCO, most environmentalist organizations, particularly those in the United States, paraphrased, of course.
Fact Check: Jason Kenney and Erin O’Toole, clearly not literary geniuses and not environmentalists, fibbed. No such threat or incitement to violence was made by Dr. Suzuki. Are our politicians really this stupid? Suzuki correctly refers to a very controversial book.
“The science on climate change has been clear for a very long time now,” writes Verso Books in a review of “How to Blow Up a Pipeline Learning to Fight in a World on Fire”
by Andreas Malm.
“Yet despite decades of appeals, mass street protests, petition campaigns, and peaceful demonstrations, we are still facing a booming fossil fuel industry, rising seas, rising emission levels, and a rising temperature. With the stakes so high, why haven’t we moved beyond peaceful protest?”
In this lyrical manifesto, noted climate scholar (and saboteur of SUV tires and coal mines) Andreas Malm makes an impassioned call for the climate movement to escalate its tactics in the face of ecological collapse. We need, he argues, to force fossil fuel extraction to stop—with our actions, with our bodies, and by defusing and destroying its tools. We need, in short, to start blowing up some oil pipelines.
Editorial note: Once again, Jason Kenney has proven himself to be inadequate to the job of leadership. The “incitement to violence” comes from Andreas Malm, not Dr. Suzuki.
