Biden leaves meeting with Putin with more speculation & threats

CNN and the US media continue to claim Russia has 175,000 troops at the Ukraine borders which according to US Intelligence reports is untrue. There are only 65,000 regular Russian troops, plus support personnel in the Yelnya region of Russia. In addition there are an unknown number of rotating reserve military personnel, according to informed sources.

A US intelligence report speculates on the number of forces required to operate an estimated number of pieces of equipment. It estimates 70,000 personnel inclusive of all personnel and suggests that number will grow to 175,000 by early 2022. But according to sources in Russia and confirmed by academics who are accustomed to reading data from satellite images, there are an estimated 65,000 regular forces and numerous additional reserve forces participating in exercises plus a number of civilian support persons. In all that could possibly reach 70,000 but not likely, say persons with knowledge of regular and reserve training in this region of Russia.

US intelligence reports suggest that 175,000 troops are what Russia intends to use for an invasion of Ukraine and that soon, as much as half of that number will be installed near the Russia-Ukraine border. The estimates are based on calculated numbers of tracked and wheeled military combat vehicles available and already prepositioned according to satellite images. Russia claims these assets are for training exercises, “but that is nobody’s business.”

This is not to suggest that the Kremlin is not planning a military operation but unequivocally, military exercises are taking place with “regular and reserve personnel learning new systems and doing interoperability and commonality training” explain the same sources.

Biden Putin meeting was useful say both sides

  1. Russian President Vladimir Putin was “direct and straightforward” according to USA National security adviser Jake Sullivan.
     
  2. Joe Biden told Vladimir Putin that if Russia attacks Ukraine, America will move enormous numbers of troops and military equipment to the Ukraine and to other Eastern European countries surrounding Russia.
     
  3. Jake Sullivan said Joe Biden will speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Thursday, 9 December 2021.
     
  4. Biden “layed out very clearly the consequences if he [Putin] chooses to move,” Sullivan said.
     
  5. “I will look you in the eye and tell you, as President Biden looked President Putin in the eye and told him today, that things we did not do in 2014, we are prepared to do now,” Sullivan explained one of many of Biden’s threats to the Russian President.
     
  6. President Biden warned President Putin that the United States would respond with “strong economic measures” if Russia invaded Ukraine, Sullivan also said.
     

Vladimir Putin explained to Biden that he seeks a legal and binding agreement with fixed guarantees that exclude expansion of NATO in the eastern direction and the deployment of offensive strike weapons systems in the states adjacent to Russia.

According to the Kremlin, “Joseph Biden, for his part, emphasized the allegedly “threatening” nature of the movements of Russian troops near the Ukrainian borders and outlined the sanctions measures that the United States and its allies would be ready to apply in the event of a further escalation of the situation.”

“In response, Vladimir Putin stressed that responsibility should not be shifted to Russia’s shoulders, since it is NATO that is making dangerous attempts to develop Ukrainian territory and building up its military potential near our borders. Therefore, Russia is seriously interested in obtaining reliable, legally fixed guarantees that exclude the expansion of NATO in the eastern direction and the deployment of offensive strike weapons systems in the states adjacent to Russia.”
