Aung San Suu Kyi team says they Interimly Govern Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar—A massive protest across Myanmar has coalesced tens of thousands of multi-ethnic group members backing Aung San Su Kyi new ‘shadow government’ says a medical student and resistance organizer from Yangon.

“Never before have the multi-ethnic groups of Myanmar been so united,” says Sandra Ellingsworth, from Lanmadaw Campus in Yangon. Ellingsworth has been in Myanmar supporting the families of three Tatmadaw-murdered medical workers from the RINJ Foundation‘s HIV Test-and-Treat project.

“The coup that deposed Aung San Su Kyi’s democratically elected Myanmar government has failed to suppress resistance even after killing an estimated 750 peace-advocates and as numerous armed ethnic groups now send delegates to a growing shadow, or interim ‘National Unity Government’ as it calls itself,” says Ellingsworth.

Comprised of nearly all the elected members the Aung San Su Kyi government, voted into office in a landslide victory last November, the ‘Unity National Government’ is, “the most representative coalition in history of all ethnic regions of the country and that has not escaped the note of ASEAN leaders,” said Ellingsworth.

Members of the Aung San Su Kyi elected government say they now seek to take their seats and demand that Aung San Su Kyi be released, says the source.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to Meet 24 April. “ASEAN’s greater interest is to see Myanmar resolve the crisis and regain stability” said a statement from 6 April

A meeting to discuss the Myanmar situation has been planned for 24 April, “and it will be an in-person-attendance of all ten nations of (ASEAN)” said a government courier who is a member of the global RINJ Women’s group.

According to the source and confirmed in other capitol cities, the meeting was urged by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his foreign minister, Retno Marsudi, as well as Brunei Darussalam (Hassanal Bolkiah),  this year’s rotating Chair of ASEAN . Of note, the theme of Brunei’s ASEAN Chairmanship is “We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper”. The sultan of Brunei has expressed in public reports from several meetings including one on 5 April with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of Malaysia, the Sultan has grave concerns that the eruptions of violence in Myanmar risks disturbing regional peace and prosperity.

The source says that he has heard alarmed bureaucrats claiming that Myanmar Coup Commander-in-Chief, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also plans to attend the 24 April meeting as does a representative of the elected interim “National Unity Government”.

Additionally, the leaders of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei,  have, in a statement, “urged all parties to refrain from instigating further violence, and for all sides to immediately exercise utmost restraint and flexibility.”
